In 1999, KC embarked
on a joint venture with three Harvard educators to create what has emerged
as a leading portal for African Americans. Africana.com, updated daily and
with more than 10,000 pages, is rated as one of the top black culture and
community sites. In July 2000, Time Warner acquired Africana.com for "low
eight figures" (exact sale price confidential) prior to its merger with
America Online in 2001. While KC has since handed over production responsibilities
to a US-based team, its many design and programming contributions continue
to be featured on the site.
